Learn how to recognise and manage sepsis in pregnancy

Obstetrics & Gynaecology Practical Scenario Modules is an online course developed by the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The course consists of seven online learning modules.

Each module focuses on a different practical scenario and is designed to develop your ability to diagnose and manage obstetric emergencies.

This module covers sepsis in pregnancy and the puerperium.

Studies have highlighted that if the criteria used outside pregnancy are used in a pregnant population cases of chorioamnionitis and sepsis may be missed.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to

- Define sepsis
- Understand the difference between sepsis in a non-pregnant and pregnant patient
- Recognise and manage sepsis in a pregnant patient
- Understand how to use the Irish maternity early warning system (IMEWS)
