This one-day course focuses on a number of commonly used practical and surgical skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Mandatory for BST in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The first half of this course covers the history of contraception, the safe and effective use of contraceptives available in Ireland as well as the legal aspects relating to contraception. The second half of the course focuses on termination of pregnancy. It begins by exploring the recent changes to legislation for the termination of pregnancy in Ireland, along with the pathways for referral, and requirements for certification and notification. It also includes guidelines for the medical and surgical management of termination of pregnancy, as well as outlining common complications that may arise.
This is a blended course, which contains online content and a 2.5 hour live virtual tutorial. The online content must be completed in advance of attending your tutorial. Each section of the course has associated case scenarios with which you should familiarise yourself ahead of your tutorial.
This module covers Pre-Eclampsia and Eclampsia, including recognising and diagnosing pre-eclampsia and eclampsia and the steps for managing and treating these conditions
This module covers Fetal Monitoring, including when intermittent and continuous CTG monitoring is indicated, classification of CTGs, interpreting CTG and indications for fetal blood sampling and how to interpret results.
This module covers Major Obstetric Haemorrhage, including recognising the risk factors, identifying the causes and managing major obstetric haemorrhage.
This module covers Perineal Suturing, including the classification of perineal tears, the procedure for perineal repair and management of third and fourth degree tears
This module covers Sepsis in Pregnancy and Puerperium, including defining sepsis, the difference between sepsis in a non-pregnant and pregnant patient and recognising and managing sepsis in a pregnant patient.
