About This Course

The aim of the course is to outline systemic anti-cancer therapies, describe their safe application with the aim of decreasing the number of errors related to prescribing systemic anti-cancer therapy.

This course covers the essentials of systemic anti-cancer treatments. You will learn about:

  • · The classification of systemic anti-cancer treatment agents
  • · Principles, standards, and the mechanics of systemic anti-cancer treatment
  • · Common supportive medications, pharma-economics, and drug access
  • · Commonly occurring prescribing errors and how to avoid them


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the learners will be able to:

  • · Understand the role and actions of systemic anti-cancer therapy
  • · Identify the requirements for safe systemic anti-cancer therapy prescribing
  • · Identify the key supportive medications for safe anti-cancer-therapy prescribing
  • · Describe the process of new drug approvals
  • · Apply safe prescribing in specific circumstances, for example, pregnancy, obesity, renal impairment

 

Course Format

This one-day course is delivered in a workshop format delivered live in-person in Dublin. During the workshop you will have an opportunity to engage with peers, practice new skills throughout the day and discuss issues commonly occurring in your clinical practice. Prior to the workshop, you will be required to familiarize with the pre-reading material available in RCPI’s virtual learning environment - Brightspace.
