This is an intensive one-day introduction to Lean Six Sigma.
This course serves as the recognised entry point to University College Dublin’s accredited Professional Certificate in Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare (Green Belt), which provides a pathway to the Graduate Diploma in Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare (Black Belt) with modules contributing to the MSc Leadership, Innovation and Management in Healthcare.
Lean and Six Sigma are two methodologies which, when used together become extremely effective ways to change and improve healthcare.
Lean helps you to streamline processes, while Six Sigma works to improve quality by reducing errors or variations. The two methodologies work so well together, that they are better known as the combination Lean Six Sigma.
Lean Six Sigma as a management model was born in manufacturing but it is now taking hold in healthcare. Although healthcare differs in many ways from manufacturing, there are also many similarities: Whether building a car or providing health care for a patient, staff must rely on multiple, complex processes to accomplish their tasks and provide value to the customer or patient. Waste — of money, time, supplies, or goodwill — decreases value.
This course will teach you how to use Lean Six Sigma to streamline your work and design innovative solutions to combat challenging situations.
By the end of the course you will be able to
This programme is based on the experiences of qualified healthcare professionals in Lean Centres of Excellence in the USA and the UK. The course includes a set of recommendations for creating effective Lean exercises for healthcare application. Two experienced Black Belt facilitators will deliver a detailed lecture and workshop outlining the history of Lean Six Sigma (LSS), its tools, examples of LSS projects, and publications specific to Irish healthcare.
You will be encouraged to engage in interactive workshop sessions throughout the course.
