This programme covers ethics, prescribing skills and blood transfusion for General Internal Medicine. 

The full programme consists of four online courses and one virtual tutorial.

You must complete the online courses before attending the virtual tutorial.

The four online courses are:

  • Healthcare Ethics
  • Blood Transfusion – This course is completed on an external website: www.learnbloodtransfusion.org.uk
  • An Introduction to Safe Prescribing Practice for General Internal Medicine
  • Principles of Antibiotic Use for General Internal Medicine

Virtual Tutorial

The virtual tutorial is 2.5 hours in duration and covers three different but equally important topics: ethics, blood transfusion and prescribing skills. The tutorial features case study sessions on ethics, blood transfusion and prescribing skills. You will discuss different scenarios with other Trainees and arrive at the best possible outcomes.

At the end of the virtual tutorial, you will have a better understanding of how to prescribe appropriately, what options you have for blood transfusion, and what is ethical and what is not.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:

  • Deal with ethical issues by interacting with patients
  • Reflect on and discuss real-life problems relating to ethics
  • Understand safe blood transfusion practice, blood components and good manufacturing practices
  • Identify the various elements of safe or appropriate prescribing and how these can be incorporated into prescribing practice
  • Improve prescribing and knowledge base with respect to diagnosing and treating common infections
