About this course

The BST Leadership in Clinical Practice programme covers communication, teamwork, personal effectiveness, presentation and teaching skills, and professionalism. 

BST Leadership in Clinical Practice is a blended learning programme. It consists of three separate components:

  • Leadership in Clinical Practice online: Teaching Skills and Patient Safety online courses available on RCPI, 4 hours
  • Leadership in Clinical Practice: Communication Skills blended course with online content and short virtual tutorial, 1.5 hour online content, 3 hour tutorial
  • Leadership in Clinical Practice: Leadership Skills blended course with online content and virtual tutorials, 2 days.

Learning Outcomes

This course will explore key concepts to improve your personal communication skills. 

On completion of this communication course you will be able to:

  • Discuss the key principles of effective communication, and understand how communication skills impact your encounters with others
  • Demonstrate active listening skills
  • Deliver presentations effectively
  • Understand how conflicts arise and recognise how to resolve with effective communication skills
  • Identify the skills necessary for communicating with patients and colleagues, including demonstrating empathy, breaking bad news, and participating in clinical teams
